Cloudera Partners With Informatica to Support DataKind and the Global Data-for-Good Movement

Earlier this year we launched our corporate citizenship program, Cloudera Cares. The program’s goal is to enable employees to be able to make an impact within their local and global communities. This organization came to be through the wish of many Clouderans who were passionate about giving back. Throughout the past few months Cloudera Cares has been able to facilitate local volunteering opportunities globally from food banks to hackathons, like Atrocity Watch.

Yesterday we announced a new Cloudera Cares partnership with Informatica to support DataKind and the Global “Data-for-Good Movement.” DataKind is a nonprofit that brings data scientists together to engage in pro bono data projects with leading nonprofits and government agencies.  A few of their partners include the WorldBank, the NYC Parks Department, Amnesty International Oxfam.  You can find a full list of their projects here.

Our Chief Strategy Officer, Founder, and DataKind Board member Mike Olson said this today: “At Cloudera, we’re really excited to be working with DataKind and Informatica. We’ve seen first-hand how data, and data science skills, can transform the commercial sector. DataKind’s mission to bring that combination to the social sector, and to work with great NGOs and non-profits to deliver better outcomes to those organizations. The work that DataKind is doing actually makes the world a better place. It’s wonderful for us to put our resources, our skills and our people to work for the greater good.” This partnership is especially exciting for Cloudera Cares as it facilitates global giving while tapping into the unique skill sets of our employees. It also offers a great opportunity to work more closely with our friends at Informatica,

Cloudera Cares will offer employees opportunities to apply for DataKind’s pro bono data science projects, and will also connect employees to DataKind’s Global Chapter Network, with locations in Bangalore, Dublin, San Francisco, Singapore, the UK, and Washington DC. Employees can also sign up for DataKind’s alerts and updates here. We are tremendously excited and view this as a major step forward for our philanthropic work.

Additional Cloudera Cares projects this week at Strata + Hadoop World NYC include:

Cloudera Cares is committed to facilitating our employees in giving back and we look forward to a lot of exciting activities and programs throughout the rest of this year and into the future.
