Financial Services Steps Into the Spotlight at Strata + Hadoop World

Financial institutions have been at the forefront when it comes to adopting Hadoop. And investment banks are clearly leading the pack.

It should therefore come as no surprise that at Strata + Hadoop World, NYC (Sept 29-Oct 1, 2015), there is a track especially dedicated to financial services. I am particularly excited since there are several great sessions to choose from.  And many of our customers are presenting alongside our partners, industry and Cloudera experts.

Some of the sessions I plan on attending include:

Data Science for Wall Street (Tues, Sept 29, 2015 – 9:00am – 12:30pm) – In this tutorial attendees will learn how to enrich stock tick data and transform data sets in Spark.

Hadoop Application Architectures: Fraud Detection (Tues, Sept 29, 2015 – 9:00am -12:30pm) – A deep dive workshop led by experts from Cloudera and Confluent on how to architect a real-time fraud-detection system.

Hadoop and Self-service Analytics: Allstate Insurance’s Journey (Tues, Sept 29, 2015 – 3:50pm – 4:10pm)  – Allstate will discuss their use of EDH and Tableau to build a centralized big data analytics hub.

Big Data Governance (Thurs, Oct 1, 2015 – 4:35pm – 5:15pm) – A panel discussion led by our very own Steve Totman along with experts from Capital One and CapTech Consulting.  Speakers will discuss practicalities and realities of big data governance for business and IT – an important topic and a must attend session for anyone in financial services. As we all know, without a proper data governance process, driving big data projects can unleash chaos.

And let’s not forget the plenary and keynote session on Wed, Sept 30, 2015 at 8:45am with Doug Cutting, the founder of Hadoop followed by Mike Olson’s keynote on the Next Generation.

I look forward to meeting our customers, partners and peers in the above sessions as well as our booth #725.
