Cloudera named a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave™: Streaming Analytics, Q2 2021
Cloudera has been named as a Strong Performer in the Forrester Wave for Streaming Analytics, Q2 2021. We are excited to be recognized in this wave at, what we consider to be, such a strong position. We are proud to have been named as one of “The 14 providers that matter most” in streaming analytics. The report states that richness of analytics, development tool options and near-effortless scalability are what streaming analytics customers should look for in a provider.
Cloudera DataFlow (CDF) is a comprehensive real-time streaming data platform that enables enterprises to address key streaming use cases across a wide range of streaming sources. In this report, Forrester states – “What happened yesterday happened yesterday. It’s too late. Streaming analytics allows enterprises to understand what is happening now, in real time, by analyzing streaming data from multiple real-time data sources.” And we have been saying the exact same thing all along – Data decays! Enterprises need to harness the value of their data in real-time. Otherwise, they miss the huge opportunity windows for transforming their businesses. CDF enables such enterprises to achieve successful digital transformations with streaming analytics.
CDF has pioneered as a data-in-motion platform since its inception at Hortonworks several years ago. Today, it offers the breadth of products for managing data-in-motion from the edge to the cloud (or the enterprise). CDF streamlines the process of collecting, curating and analyzing real-time streaming data with its integrated set of components. The Forrester Wave report, in our opinion, rightly recognizes Cloudera DataFlow as more than streaming analytics. It calls out that Cloudera DataFlow “includes streaming flow and streaming data processing unified with Cloudera Data Platform”. We think that this is a good validation of our data-in-motion philosophy that a streaming architecture is made up of needs across data ingestion, messaging and analytics and in our case, this is powered by Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka and Apache Flink.
Hundreds of customers across multiple industry verticals are leveraging Cloudera DataFlow today for various streaming use cases like Clickstreams, log ingestion/analysis, social stream analysis, etc. There are dozens of customers that use CDF for IoT use cases like Predictive Maintenance, Asset Tracking/Monitoring, Fleet Management, Smart Cities and many more. The Forrester Wave calls out CDF’s edge management features that enable such IoT use cases and leverage streaming analytics. We are ever appreciative to our customers to be rated with high scores on customer enablement in this report.
In the last two years, we have come out with several innovations and enhancements to our product offering. We feel that these key points have enabled us in being recognized as a strong performer –
- Addition of Apache Flink to CDF – Early last year, we added Apache Flink to our stack firming up our streaming analytics offering. While we supported multiple streaming engines, we could see that Flink was gaining a lot of traction in the industry and in the community. Integrating Flink with the rest of the CDF stack made it extremely easy for our customers to extend their streaming architectures to harness real-time analytics with absolute low latency processing of data streams.
- Strategic acquisition of Eventador – Bringing on board SQL Stream Builder (SSB), a product from Eventador, and integrating it quickly with CDF was critical to liberating access to real-time data streams for data analysts. This enabled acceleration of building real-time streaming applications on Flink with a simple, easy-to-use GUI. Forrester states in this report – “CDF offers GUI tools that abstract away all the complexity of the many open source projects working to create real-time applications, including IoT.”
- Embracing Cloudera Data Platform – Our Enterprise Data Cloud offering, Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) has enabled our customers to run multiple types of workloads across public, private and hybrid clouds. By extending our CDF streaming capabilities into CDP, we have not only taken advantage of such cloud environments, CDF also benefits from the unified security and governance framework of Cloudera SDX.
A major standout for us in the report is that we received the highest possible scores in the solution roadmap criterion. We have planned many exciting things for the immediate future. Stay tuned for cool product announcements.
